Scrap for Hire Frequently Asked Questions

Why create a scrapbook anyway?

Just think of all those photos you have laying around your house.  Think about all the photos that the family historian has (every family has someone that keeps old photos).  Are there folks in those photos that you wish you knew who they were and maybe a little bit about them?  Are there things that your children do now that you know they’ll outgrow and you’d love to tell their future selves just how cute they were?  Do you have a parent or grandparent that would love to have a book to flip through to relive special moments in their lives.  Reasons for creating a scrapbook are as varied as the memories and the people who enjoy them.

How long does it take?

During our initial consultation we will agree upon a timeframe and a specific deadline.  The time required to create your personalized memory book depends on the size of the project and the complexity of the pages.  However, a twenty page 12×12 album will usually take between three and six weeks depending on the complexity.  Smaller albums take less time.  We understand that sometimes situations develop that require your album to be completed quickly and for an additional rush fee we can meet your needs.

What is journaling?

Journaling is the most important part of a scrapbook.  Journaling is the story behind the pictures.  During our initial consultation we’ll be asking you questions about the pictures so we can get an idea of what they mean to you.  This is important both for the layout creation and for the journaling.  We’ll also find out if you have specific things you wish to say about the photos and/or the events pictured.  Finally, we’ll find out if you would like us to include the journaling in the layout or if you would prefer we leave space and let you write it in yourself.

Can you use professionally produced photographs?

Professional photographers retain the rights to their photographs.  If the photographer is willing to provide a release to allow the photos to be used we’ll be happy to use these photos.   However, morally and as a professional courtesy we must respect the rights of professional photographers.

What if I don’t live near the Tallahassee area?

No problem.  We can use email, regular mail and telephone throughout the entire process.  If using mail we do highly recommend using a mail service which tracks and ensures shipments for the safety of your photos and other memorabilia.
